Many social networks give you the tools to find out what’s hot and establish yourself quickly. Let me explain how these systems work.

Every time a Blog or website ‘pings’ one of these social networks they take the ‘category name’ of your Blog post and turn it into a tag. There are also plug ins for Wordpress that allow you to define your own tags. The social network then takes these ‘tags’ and turns them into links that go to all the posts they have on these topics.

How does that help you? Well these social networks are getting A LOT of traffic. One of our Blogs on a popular ‘pop culture’ topic received over 1 million visitors last month from Technorati alone. How did we do it? Well we created several Blogs about this popular t.v. show. We linked them all together.

Every time we made a post Technorati grabbed our ‘tags’ and also took note of the sites we were linking to – increasing their weight (Most of the tagging networks deal with incoming links in a fashion very similar to Google).

Every post made on any Blog that linked to the ‘main’ Blog just made that main Blog more popular and rank higher.

So why are people using these social networks and why should you use them to increase your market share? Many people know that if they search for something in a search engine they are just going to be going to commercial sites. They have found these social networks to be a way to find great content, and things to keep them occupied. They will come to your site and read until they get bored – then they are going to try and find a way off your page. That might be a Google Adsense ad, a link to one of your more commercial sites, or to another Blog on your network.

It’s a great way to get traffic early to a Blog instead of waiting for the Search Engines to List you. It will start slow but if you work together with several Blogs in a matter of days you will find you are getting more and more traffic every day.

What I do recommend doing:
Setting up a Blog that points to your main Blog on this topic. Setting up a couple additional Blogs that point to your main Blog site on this topic. Registe your main Blog with Technorati (you get credited with a extra link this way). Learn how to set up your Blogs correctly for SEO, and the proper plug ins needed to really expand your social network ‘friendliness’.
